Beachfront Vision:

Wasaga Beach's waterfront is our community's greatest asset. It belongs to everyone, and every decision we make should protect what makes it special while creating opportunities for future generations.

For years, our community has debated the future of Beach 1 and Beach 2. Those discussions have often become divided between those who wanted more development and those who wanted less.

I believe we can move beyond that debate.

We cannot afford to spend another decade reopening decisions that have already been made. Taxpayers deserve progress, certainty and responsible, transparent leadership.

That means respecting legal commitments that have been entered into, ensuring developers meet every obligation, and making sure residents receive the public benefits they were promised.

Our focus should be on improving the future, not reliving the past.

Beach 1 has long been envisioned as Wasaga Beach's tourism and entertainment hub.

The Marriott hotel, quality restaurants, gathering spaces, public amenities, and carefully planned commercial development can help strengthen our economy, create year-round jobs, extend the tourism season, and support local businesses.

My role as Mayor will be to ensure these commitments are delivered.

Developers should honour their agreements.

Infrastructure should come first.

Public access to the beach must always remain protected.

Taxpayers should receive full value for every public investment.

Success isn't measured by the number of buildings, it is measured by whether residents benefit from the investment.

Beach 2 offers an opportunity to preserve what has always made Wasaga Beach extraordinary.

Not every section of our shoreline needs to be urbanized.

In my opinion, Beach 2 should remain primarily a beautiful municipal waterfront park, enhanced with walking trails, family gathering spaces, improved public amenities, natural landscaping, and carefully selected recreational opportunities.

Small scale attractions and businesses that complement the park experience can help serve residents and visitors, but the defining feature should remain nature and the beach itself.

People travel from across Ontario and beyond because Wasaga Beach offers something few places can, a spectacular natural shoreline. Protecting that character isn't just good environmental policy, it's good economic policy.

I believe this vision fits naturally alongside the Destination Wasaga initiative.Destination Wasaga aims to create a vibrant, year-round destination that supports tourism, business, and community life. A thriving Beach 1 and a protected, park-focused Beach 2 are not competing ideas, they strengthen one another.Beach 1 becomes the community's vibrant destination for dining, entertainment, events, and accommodations.Beach 2 becomes the place where residents and visitors reconnect with nature, enjoy open space, experience our iconic shoreline, and appreciate the natural beauty that has made Wasaga Beach famous for generations.Together, they offer visitors two distinct experiences within one connected waterfront, encouraging longer stays, repeat visits, and a stronger local economy while preserving the unique character that sets Wasaga Beach apart.

Our waterfront shouldn't force us to choose between economic development and environmental stewardship, we can have both. By building forward instead of starting over, we can deliver on existing commitments, support the goals of Destination Wasaga, protect our most valuable natural asset and create a waterfront that future generations will be proud to inherit.

That's the future I see for Wasaga Beach, a destination that grows with purpose while never losing the natural beauty that makes it unlike anywhere else.
